Here, too, a major change took effect on October 1 – one that now applies in all EU countries.
A new marking for winter tires has come into force. Winter tires must now carry the 3PMSF (Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake) marking, i.e., the alpine symbol of a snowflake inside a mountain.
The marking itself isn’t new, but in the past, tires bearing the M+S (Mud & Snow) mark were also classified as winter tires. That no longer applies, and the M+S marking is now insufficient. New tires with the 3PMSF symbol are the only guarantee that a tire has passed standardized testing in severe winter conditions.
The winter tire requirement for 2024 and 2025, however, remains the same. Drivers must use winter tires from November 1 to March 31 whenever there is continuous snow cover, ice or frost on the roads, or when such conditions can be expected due to the weather.
